🌍 Exploring the Power of Citizen Science
On the 27th of October, more than 20 participants from our partner institutions and from diverse career stages joined us for the Workshop on Citizen Science.
Hosted at ITQB NOVA and in partnership with Programa Ciência mais Cidadã the event showcased how public participation can meaningfully contribute to scientific discovery and innovation. Citizen Science empowers everyone—researchers and citizens alike—to collaborate, share knowledge, and co-create impactful research.
The workshop featured inspiring talks and practical insights, including: an introduction to Citizen Science and EUTOPIA Citizen Science starter kit, showcases of current Citizen Science projects, a sustainable coffee break by Oeiras Experimenta and a hands-on co-creation exercise where participants designed their own Citizen Science project ideas.
We’re thrilled to see such enthusiasm and engagement around this key pillar of Open Science. Citizen Science not only expands research capacity but also strengthens trust between science and society.
A massive thank you to Maria João Leão, Inês Sardinha e Bruna Henriques (Programa Ciência + Cidadã), as well as all speakers and participants who made this workshop a success. Together, we’re making science more inclusive, collaborative, and impactful.
