What happened at our partners… April 2024 edition

          

On April 22, NOVA Medical School signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ – an institution of the Federal Public Administration, linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Health), which aims to foster cooperation between the two institutions, with the main focus on research. Recognized globally for their work in health promotion, the two institutions have joined forces in a multifaceted partnership protocol, which also aims to establish a solid basis for strategic collaborations and strengthen cooperation ties in various areas of medicine and health.

Karina Xavier, leader of the Bacterial Signaling Lab, has been awarded a Research Grant by the Human Frontier Science Program. The funded project, titled “Hormone-like Bacterial Signaling Molecules as Mediators of Gut-Brain Dialogues,” explores the intriguing role of a newly identified group of molecules, known as pyrazinones, in mediating gut-brain communication.

iBET hosted the other academic and industry partners from the TEC4GREEN consortium, funded by the PRR (Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência), for their 1st technical meeting. This project, with promising impact for the national agri-food industry, is coordinated by Ascenza and focused on preparing the sector for a more sustainable future.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, ITQB NOVA created a new space for conversations: “(Des)Conversas – Conhecimento e Liberdade” to help us reflect beyond our science. Between April 2024 and April 2025, these talks, open to the public, will have the motto “Knowledge and Freedom”. The first session took place on April 29th at 5:30 PM, with ITQB NOVA researchers Carlos Romão and Cristina Silva Pereira. Two more sessions are already scheduled: on 18 May, a special session dedicated to the Fascination of Plants Day, with Margarida Oliveira, and a session on June 3rd with Alexandre Quintanilha. Other session dates and guests will be proposed by the ITQB NOVA community, individually or in groups, contributing to a diverse and balanced programme throughout the year.
