This session aims to create an informal setting where we invite our community to engage with national and international industry researchers and learn more about how their research projects, their research environment and some important aspects of the recruitment process.

Join this LS4FUTURE session with guest speakers Liliana Brito, a Stem Cell Scientist at Hoxton Farms (UK), and Mário Soares, a Scientist and Team Leader at FairJourney Biologics (PT).

Meet the speakers:

Liliana Brito, Stem Cell Scientist at Hoxton Farms,

Liliana Brito, PhD is currently working as a scientist at Hoxton Farms. In this food company, Liliana is involved in the cell line development process for cultivated fat production. Before moving into the industry world, Liliana completed her PhD in cardiac regeneration in the British Heart Foundation Centre of Excellence at Imperial College London.

Besides her studies, Dr Brito dedicated part of her time to public engagement and outreach activities, including supporting research networks and conferences. Dr Brito also volunteers as a coordinator at Native Scientists and is the current President of the General Assembly at PARSUK (Portuguese Association of Students and Researchers in the UK).

Mário Soares, Scientist and team leader at FairJourney Biologics

Mário Soares started his scientific research career as a FCT scholar (BII) in Microbiology in 2009, while finishing his BSc in Genetics and Biotechnology (UTAD, Vila Real). In 2013 completed a double MSc degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology (U.Coimbra and U. degli Studi del Sannio di Benevento – Italy). In 2019, Mário completed his PhD studies in Integrative Biology and Biomedicine (Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência). He published three peer-reviewed publications in international journals. In 2022, after three years as a post-doctoral researcher at i3S (Porto), Mário joined FairJourney Biologics, where he is now working as a scientist and team leader within the cell line development division. Additionally, in 2022, Mário co-founded “.what.if. – Business Intelligence for Life Sciences”, aiming to support the professionalization of both research and healthcare day-to-day tasks involving data, using Business Intelligence tools.
