LS4FUTURE TL1 Mini-Symposium brought scientists together for an afternoon of cutting‑edge science

We had an inspiring afternoon at the LS4FUTURE TL1 Minisymposium on advanced microscopy and imaging technologies.

We had the privilege of hosting two outstanding keynote speakers, Christopher Spahn and Thomas Walter, whose talks were not only scientifically impressive but also exceptionally clear, engaging, and thought-provoking. We are immensely grateful by both speakers for sharing their expertise and enthusiasm with our community.

Through fascinating examples of cutting-edge microscopy and imaging approaches, we explored how technological innovation is transforming biological research, from uncovering the principles governing bacterial nucleoid organization to mapping spatial gene expression patterns in cancer tissues. Their presentations beautifully illustrated how advances in imaging and AI are enabling researchers to ask entirely new questions and gain unprecedented insights into complex biological systems.

The energy throughout the afternoon was remarkable. Researchers actively participated in the discussions, the speed-dating networking session sparked new connections.

Of course, science is also about people and community. The conversations continued long after the formal program had ended during our pizza and beer gathering on the ITQB NOVA terrace. With stunning views over the Tejo River and Oeiras beach, the networking session naturally extended into a wonderful evening of scientific, and also political, exchange.

We thank everyone who attended and contributed to making this event an enjoyable afternoon. Events like these remind us how powerful it is to bring together curious minds, innovative science, and a welcoming community.
